Tour #6 - The Ultimate Cambodian Beach Tour

A 7 day and 6 night trip south to just about all of Cambodia's beaches.

Cambodia has approximately 440 kilometers of coastline. On this tour you will see beaches that are around 420 kilometers apart!  You will see the beaches of Cambodia from Koh Kong on the Thai Border - to Krung Kep which is only 20 kilometres from Vietnam.

A minimum of one bike is all we need for this tour. But with one Harley we will dispense with the escort vehicle and your guide will carry a medium suitcase (supplied) of your belongings.

Please note all prices are in U S Dollars.

This trip will be accompanied by an escort vehicle (for 2 or more Harleys) and a tour guide on a Harley.

All prices are per bike. If you are traveling 2 up on your Harley, there is an extra fee of $25/day to cover meals. If an extra room is requested, it will be charged at cost price, upon arrival at the hotel.

This trip was a trail bike trip until recently. In fact the road and bridges from Kampot to Route 4 were only finished in the last 12 months. The bridges to Koh Kong are not yet finished , so keep in mind that one and possibly two ferry crossings are needed to reach Koh Kong.

Extra day/s can be included where possible on request.

Murray, on the road about 80 kms from Koh Kong.

Day 1.
Meals that are supplied: Breakfast and Dinner

You will be picked up from your hotel around 8am and driven to our depot, known to all as the Hog House, approximately 12kms from the centre of the city in the village of Takmau. Here we will have a basic breakfast, finalize paperwork, go over our bikes and answer any queries. In departing from our depot you will avoid most of the craziness that is Phnom Penh traffic. We leave Takmao around 10am and travel through the countryside to Takeo. Here we stop for a short drinks break in the centre of Takeo town. From Takeo we continue onto Kampot.

Here we book into our hotel. You have a choice of two hotels, the historical Bokor Mountain Lodge with (6) rooms upstairs and bar/restaurant downstairs or the more modern Rikitikitavi with (4) rooms downstairs and bar restaurant upstairs. Both are small so we may end up occupying both. Don't worry about location as they are both on the riverside and approximately 25 metres apart. You will have a few hours to relax or explore the area, perhaps even a short 20km trip to the beach at Kep for a dip in the ocean. That night we'll head off to a Khmer restaurant on the river for dinner and a few drinks. After dinner perhaps a few drinks at a few of the bars in Kampot such as the Rusty Keyhole (a personal favorite of mine) then off to bed.

Day 2.
Meals that are supplied Breakfast and Dinner

We depart Kampot after breakfast. We travel west until we reach Route 4. From here we head 40 kilometers north until we reach the Sre Ambel turn off. The road to Koh Kong is finally completely sealed with 2 bridges now open. Another bridge is near completion and the final bridge is due to be completed sometime in late 2008. At least one ferry crossing will be necessary. This is a nuisance but is no real problem. The ride from Sre Ambel can only be described in one word……..SENSATIONAL!

In Koh Kong we check into the Oasis Resort. That night we'll head off to a Khmer Seafood restaurant down by the river.

Day 3.
Meals that are supplied: Breakfast

On day 3 you have a decision to make! Here are your two options: Option 1 is a lazy day by the beach or the pool. The beach is about 10 kilometers from town and has excellent but very basic restaurants and bars. Option 2 is for the more adventurous. I hand you over to Nick Berry! Nick is a good friend of mine and the owner operator of Jungle Cross. He will put you on a 250cc trail bike and take you on a one day tour of the Cardamon Mountains. Nick will let you choose the duration of your trip and the degree of difficulty. It could be a leisurely ride through the bush or it could be bloody hard work, it's up to you. Whatever happens you are guaranteed a great days riding. This ride is free of charge and compliments of HCT.

Day 4
Meals that are supplied: Breakfast and Dinner

We leave the Oasis and return to route 4. We then head south to the Resort city of Sihanouk Ville. Route 4 is the shortest route from Phnom Penh to Sihanouk Ville so be warned, it can get quite hectic. When we reach Sihanouk Ville we check into the Reef Resort. From here you are free to relax by the pool or walk to the nearby beaches. That night we will head to Treasure Island, a Khmer seafood restaurant on a deserted beach. Then the rest of the night is yours to enjoy the nightlife that is Sihanouk Ville.

Day 5.
Meals that are supplied: Breakfast and Dinner

Again we have a day of choices, a lazy day down by the beach or a fishing trip with Brian, a big Kiwi mate of mine. Brian guarantees you will catch fish! (Like all fishermen Brian is prone to exaggeration) Whatever you might or might not catch you will have a great day around the islands where you are also welcome to swim or go snorkeling. That night whether you are a fishermen or not, Brian will cook up his famous fish and chips for all.

Day 6.
Meals that are supplied: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4 we leave Sihanouk Ville but never fear, we are not leaving Cambodia's beaches just yet. We depart the Reef Resort after breakfast and travel back to Kampot. After a drinks break in Kampot we travel the short distance to Krung Kep. In Kampot we decide whether to have lunch at Kristian's Rusty Keyhole (where the BBQ ribs are famous throughout the Kingdom) or, after a drink, we travel to Kep for seafood (where the seafood is famous throughout the Kingdom) Kep was once the darling of elite Cambodians before Sihanouk Ville became Cambodia's number one beach destination. In Kep we check into the Beach House, a splendid hotel, set in the hills overlooking the ocean. Here you can enjoy the pool or walk down to the beach. That night we will visit a Khmer seafood restaurant. There are getting to be more drinking establishments in Kep, but maybe a swim or quiet beer back at the Beach House is the best way to finish our last night before Phnom Penh.

Day 7.
Meals that are supplied: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner (a BBQ).

On day 5 we are in no hurry to travel the 150 odd kilometres back to the Hog House. Maybe an early breakfast followed by an hour or two on the beach. We'll check out around noon, then have lunch at another Khmer seafood restaurant. After lunch we begin the final leg of our tour. We'll arrive back at the Hog House in Takmau well before dark. There we'll have a few drinks, a swim and a BBQ before you are delivered back to your hotel that evening in Phnom Penh.

The only thing not included in this price are the meals not listed and your drinks.

Cost of the Cambodian Beach Tour is $1975
